lighting systems

A house decorated with multicolored LED lights at night.

What is Permanent Lighting?

Permanent lighting systems, often referred to as permanent holiday or architectural lighting, are a modern and convenient solution for illuminating homes and businesses year-round. Unlike traditional temporary lights that are installed and removed seasonally, these systems are a long-lasting, weather-resistant, and low-profile installation that stays in place for years.

How does it work?

Permanent lighting systems are typically installed along the exterior of a building, most commonly under the soffit or fascia, using a discreet, color-matched aluminum track. This track houses energy-efficient LED bulbs, making the system virtually invisible during the day. The system can be controlled via a smartphone app, which connects to a central control unit. This allows for complete customization of the lighting.

Users can:

  • Choose from millions of colors, patterns, and animations. This allows for personalized displays for holidays (e.g., Christmas, Halloween), special occasions (e.g., birthdays, graduations, sporting events), or simply for daily ambiance.
  • Set schedules and timers. Lights can be automated to turn on and off at specific times.
  • Adjust brightness. The lights can be dimmed or brightened to suit the mood or specific needs.
  • Control individual lights. Some advanced systems allow for "addressable" LEDs, meaning you can control each bulb individually to create intricate patterns.

The system's power supply is typically a low-voltage design, with a transformer that plugs into a standard 120V outlet. All wiring is discreetly routed through the attic or soffit, ensuring a clean and professional look.

What are the key benefits?

Permanent lighting systems offer numerous advantages over traditional lighting:

  • Convenience: The most significant benefit is the elimination of the annual hassle of installing and removing lights. This saves time, effort, and the risk of climbing ladders.
  • Versatility: The lights can be used for any occasion, not just the holidays. They can provide subtle architectural lighting to enhance curb appeal or be changed to match any event or mood.
  • Durability: These systems are built to withstand a wide range of weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. They are made with high-quality, weatherproof, and fireproof materials, with a lifespan of 20 years or more.
  • Energy Efficiency: Permanent lighting systems use LED technology, which consumes significantly less power than traditional incandescent bulbs. This can lead to substantial savings on electricity bills.
  • Enhanced Security: A well-lit exterior deters intruders by eliminating dark hiding spots. The lights can also be integrated with motion sensors for added security.
  • Increased Property Value: Permanent lighting is considered an architectural enhancement that boosts a home's curb appeal and can increase its overall value.
